Played in a soccer tournament in San Diego on Sunday. I played in 4 games and only 2 goals total were scored in regulation time. It was 7 v 7 with tiny goals, so it was hard to score. Most games went into penalty kicks because of a tie. So that's where the goals were scored. That being said, I scored one of the 2 goals. YAY!
I really prefer 11 v 11 though. I can run more.
My husband went nuts with the Xmas decorations this year. We have a new artificial tree with the lights built in, multicolored icicles on the eaves, blinking lights along the walkway, and dark blue light on a shrub. We got some new ornaments at Disneyland. So things are looking good. Getting started on cards, almost halfway done with baking, but I still have to mail order stuff. I'm getting there.

I am so bummed. I'm planning on buying a new car and had my heart set on a Toyota Camry (it has all the features I want), when my hubby (the "buy American" guy) tells me that there's a problem with the Toyotas in that rarely the accelerator will stick and the only way to stop it is to hold the ignition button for 3 very long seconds. Rats! I don't want a death trap. And I want a car that uses a key - not a start button - to start the car. Why do they have to have so much computer stuff in a car? It's just an accident waiting to happen.
Reports are coming in from the Boston Megafest. There's nothing better than poodle head James, I tell ya. I'm glad he seems to be feeling better. Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all. And James manages to make new fans everywhere he goes. Such a delightful man.
I'm in for the Love Hearts event in London in February. I wish everyone on my flist who is going for tickets to the Valentine's Day event in NJ 'good luck'. Both events sound super, albeit expensive. But there's time to save up at least.
I was kind of wondering about something today. A lot of things happened in BTVS and ATS that were the result of actor availability. What would have happened in canon, I wonder, if
1. Seth Green was available to play Oz through Season 5?
2. SMG was willing to do Seasons 8 and maybe 9?
3. SMG was available for "the Girl in Question"?
I wonder if Joss or the writers had ever given a clue which direction they would have gone if these things happened. A friend once told me that she heard that for #2 they were still planning to resurrect Spike and they would have explored a healthy relationship between Buffy and Spike in Season 8. Wouldn't that have been nice? Makes me wonder though. That's what the fanfic writers do for me. Stop me from wondering - they just write it!

Go Phillies! (no it's not sour grapes ..... or is it?)
OK, everyone. We may be on life support but we are not dead. The Angels have a chance to go on. They just need to win one game at a time. If Servite can beat Mater Dei (and a thousand yays to that) then the Angels can beat New York. I will allow Jeter to get a few hits because I respect him as a player. Oh, who am I kidding? We have our backs against the wall but still I say GO ANGELS!!!!!
I feel very thankful today. I'm thankful that:
The Angels won last night
My children are grown, with full time jobs, and they love me.
My hubby of 28 years still wants me, and the idea of growing old with him is very appealing.
I'm in great physical shape and able to play soccer 4 times a week without getting tired.
I'm going to Disneyland today and I'm going on all the rides I want to.
I thank God every day for all the blessings he has given me. My wish is for everyone on my flist to have this kind of contentment in their life. You all deserve it.

I can't believe it. The Angels swept the Red Sox. No one ever thought that was possible. They were losing by two runs with two outs in the ninth and managed to come back and win the game, beating Papelbon - who has never allowed a run in his postseason career. Well, he allowed 3 in the ninth! Awesome job by the Angels. Now on to the championship series.
We beat the jinx! I was at the Angel game last night and they shut out the Red Sox, something no one ever thought they could do in postseason. This by no means indicates that we will win this Division series, but it sure is a great start. Go Jered! Let's win again.
Thanks to a special someone, I'm in at the She Stoops to Conquer event. It'll be fun getting together with the gang. I'm also going on Friday night, so maybe we all can do something after the performance. With my luck, this event is going to be on a Saturday that I work so I hope someone will trade with me.
Had a disappointing soccer game today - we were winning 1-0 for the 1st 80 minutes, but then one of our defenders had to leave, we had no subs the whole game, and we just ran out of gas. The opponent scored 3 goals on us in 10 minutes. Well, we'll get them back when we face them again later on.

Yes, I have returned from trout fishing in the eastern Sierras. Fishing was comparatively slow since it's the end of the season. We're used to going in July. But I managed to get a 16 inch rainbow out of Bridgeport Reservoir using a red/gold Thomas Buoyant lure (which the boat launch guy said wouldn't work out there - hah!), and a 14 in brown trout out of a backcountry lake that I practically had to scale boulders to get to. Also, on Tioga Lake, my husband and I managed to catch between us 34 fish in the space of an hour, using that above mentioned lure. That was pandemonium! Such lovely weather though, clear blue skies and fresh air. I just love being in the middle of a lake in my float tube. There's nothing better, well except maybe scoring a soccer goal!
My hubby and I went on a tuna fishing trip on a 1 1/2 day boat. Wild fishing all around. We had 23 anglers and about 150 fish caught. I personally landed 6 yellowfin tuna - my hubby caught 16. At our very last spot we found some bluefin tuna, ranging in size from 3o-50 lbs (the yellowfin were 10-20). So when they started picking up the blues I went to get my pole with the 30 lb test line. I got bit by a probable blue but he broke off my line after about 20 seconds. What? I caught another yellow after that, but it was a much longer fight than I had with the other ones. When I finished fishing I discovered that I had grabbed the pole with 20 lb test line. What a moron! If I had picked up the right pole I probably would have landed that big blue.
Wishing a happy birthday to sweet
boschette. You deserve a great one, hon.
This has been the week from hell. Our new lab computer system went live on Tuesday and we are having nothing but problems. The LIS and the hospital system are not communicating very well, so some tests that are ordered are not coming into the lab system, and tests that we complete are not going back into the hospital system. So you can imagine all the phone calls we are getting. And we are still trying to get the system straight. Things that worked when we were testing it are no longer working. It's a nightmare. I'm so glad to have this weekend off. I keep telling myself that in six months time this system will be old hat. If I can last that long....
Got one of my comics signed by the writer, Geoff Johns, yesterday. He's writing a new Green Lantern series but I brought a Legion of Super Heroes comic that he wrote. He also wrote the Smallville episode that featured the Legion. There was still quite the line (it was held at the comic book store I go to) when I got to him. Most people just handed him their comics and said nothing. When I got up there I said "it's all about the Legion". And we were off on a 5 minute conversation about the LSH. He personalized the autograph too. Really nice guy and a fantastic comic writer. He will be at ComicCon, for those of you who might be there.
I have a Dreamwidth invite code available if anyone wants one.
Mom came home from the hospital no worse for wear. She had a partial bowel obstruction and was in a lot of pain. I didn't expect her to have to stay in the hospital for 4 days. I'm sure she loved the attention. The hospitalist thought she was delightful. She's awful sharp for a 95 year old, that's for sure. Now to keep her on a high fiber diet and have her drink lots of fluids and everything should be fine.
Well, I'm going to be a good little volunteer and paint the baseboards of the women's bathroom at my church. Only problem is I've never painted before - my hubby always does it. So how hard can it be? Well, my husband decided to help me and along with the paint and brush (which is all I was going to bring) we apparently need a sander with extension cord, knee pads, tape, drop cloth, sand paper, cleaner, rags, and some other things I haven't identified. I think it's going to turn into a major project. I thought it would take an hour at most but I bet it'll be a lot longer. But I'm thankful for his help.
